Maul Foster & Alongi/FLO Analytics is seeking a Project or Senior GIS Analyst in our Portland office to help drive a variety of core business functions across a wide variety of industries and project types, particularly within school districts. In this role, you will serve as a key member of the FLO team and will be tasked with project management, and potentially marketing, and business development. This position requires strong interpersonal skills, exceptional organization skills, and experience working in a fast-paced and deadline-driven environment. Additionally, the successful candidate must be able to think outside the box, take initiative in a variety of situations, and effectively communicate verbally, in writing, and in person.

FLO Analytics (FLO) specializes in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and data analytics services, and data management services, serving school districts, government, utilities, non-profit groups, and various businesses and industries in the Pacific Northwest and beyond. FLO supports and is a key innovator within Maul Foster & Alongi, Inc. (MFA), a locally owned Pacific Northwest consulting firm specializing in the areas of environmental science, engineering, planning, and GIS. Since 1996, MFA has grown to over 100 employees, with offices in Oregon, Washington, and Idaho.

Key responsibilities for this role include:

  • Managing projects across multiple market segments and at various scales with a focus on school district work including student enrollment forecasting and boundary review work.
  • Gathering requirements, determining scopes, and estimating hours needed to develop and deliver custom geospatial solutions to our customers, including managing projects through their entire lifecycle.
  • Consulting with end users, clients and customers to determine project needs.
  • Evaluating procedures, processes, techniques, models and/or methodologies to develop solutions and assisting in the development and implementation of emerging solutions across client sectors.
  • Identifying, recommending, and implementing improvements to workflow design and processing methodologies to improve efficiency, scalability, and reliability.
  • Collaborating with cross-functional internal and external team members and occasionally third-party vendors, sometimes as project lead, and other times under other team member leadership.
  • Professional networking and relationship building in pursuit of new work throughout the Northwest and nation, including attending tradeshows to market company services.
  • Coordinating with FLO's marketing coordinator and senior/principal staff in the development of ongoing marketing strategies.
  • Identifying, recommending, and assisting with implementing improvements to system designs and processing methodologies to improve workflow efficiency, scalability, and reliability.
  •  Collaborating with cross-functional internal and external team members and occasionally third-party vendors, sometimes as project lead, and other times under other team member leadership.
  • Advising, training, mentoring, and learning from other team members on business development, technical, and client sectors topics.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • BA/BS degree from a U.S. accredited college or university in geography, planning, environmental studies/science, computer science, or a related field with an emphasis in GIS and/or data analytics.
  • 5+ years of professional work experience as a GIS/Data Analyst and/or Senior GIS/Data Analyst.
  • 2+ years of experience managing projects, including successful alignment of scope of works, budgets, and staff resources.
  • Experience managing project teams and mentoring junior staff, as appropriate.
  • Experience conducting needs assessment and/or defining end use requirements for services and products.
  • Experience in business development in the GIS consulting industry.
  • Experience working with Esri's ArcGIS Desktop suite and extensions.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and Access.
  • Proven organizational and problem-solving skills, as well as attention to detail.
  • Must be able to formulate and clearly communicate ideas, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to work independently with little guidance and in a collaborative group environment.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment as an individual contributor on a transparent, agile team.
  • Willingness to work overtime, evenings, and travel within the Pacific Northwest and across the nation as needed.
  • Comfortable working within a public setting both clients and community stakeholders

 Desired Skills and Abilities:

  • A graduate certificate and/or degree in GIS or related field.
  • Domain expertise in school districts or local government.
  • Experience in working with and providing a broad range of GIS services, including planning, local government, environmental, and utility datasets.
  • Experience in community engagement, meeting facilitation, and participating in open houses.
  • Advanced working knowledge of marketing & communications principles.
  • Experience in content creation and facilitation of marketing campaigns.
  • Experience with Esri's extensions, including Business Analyst.
  • Experience in working with Esri's AGOL, ArcGIS Server, and Web APIs.
  • Experience with other non-Esri data analytic, blending, and visualization solutions (e.g., Alteryx, Tableau).
