Position Description: Maul Foster & Alongi, Inc. is seeking a full-time copy editor to work in either our Portland, OR or Coeur d'Alene, ID or Vancouver, WA officeThe copy editor edits a variety of publications, including reports, manuals, proposals, procedures, and related materials. This position also deals with internal staff at all levels of the organization. Independent judgment is required to plan, prioritize, and organize workload and to recommend changes in workflow procedures. 

This position requires strong interpersonal skills, exceptional organizational skills, and a proven ability to thrive in a fast-paced and deadline-driven environment. The successful candidate must be a quick learner who takes initiative on deliverables and serving our organization's needs and who can effectively communicate verbally and in writing 

As Copy Editor, you will...  

  • Edit documents for organization, clarity, and style.  
  • Exercise good judgment in assessing the level of edit required in the deliverable process.  
  • Organize and occasionally draft technical and business material using word processing software per established company standards with respect to order, style, and terminology. 
  • Proofread documents to carefully check formatting, punctuation, and spelling. Review for consistent use of terms and language for readability. 
  • Check referencing and citations; cross-check tables, graphs, and illustrations. 
  • Occasionally provide backup support to administrative assistants for reception, mailing, and document-production duties. 

What are we looking for? 

Minimum Qualifications: 

  • 3+ years of progressively responsible administrative experience  
  • 3+ years of technical editing experience 
  • Relevant bachelor's degree (e.g., English, communications, technical writing)  
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (e.g., Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint) 
  • Strong customer-service orientation and agility in responding to requests 
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written 
  • Proven decision-making skills 
  • An aptitude for anticipating needs 
  • Exceptional organizational and problem-solving skills  
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize  

Desired Skills and Interests: 

  • Previous experience in a professional services firm or similar (e.g., architect, law, design, consulting, engineering) 
  • Experience working in a deadline-driven environment
