Maul Foster & Alongi (MFA) is seeking a full-time Senior Environmental Specialist to serve our clients with integrated environmental, health and safety services including asbestos expertise. You will get to work as part of an interdisciplinary team to manage environmental projects focused on asbestos. You will also manage fieldwork and reporting and will interact with clients to develop user-friendly, site-specific programs and reports that comply with regulatory requirements while maximizing operational efficiency. Some travel to other office locations is expected

As a senior professional at MFA, you will serve clients, in close coordination with MFA teammates and regulatory agencies to facilitate delivery of project results. In addition to application of your project management and technical expertise, you will develop new and maintain existing client relationships, introducing them to MFA services both in your wheelhouse and introducing them to the breadth of services MFA offers. You will serve as a project manager and mentor staff to grow in their careers. Your communication skills, both verbal and written, are clear and concise, and, if necessary, persuasive, in service to our clients' needs. You are a natural leader and collegial teammate, respecting individuals' skills, and perspectives. Drawing on your knowledge and experience, you relish taking on a problem to implement solutions for our clients.

You should have interest and/or experience in many of the following areas:

  • Asbestos sampling and inspection
  • Occupational and environmental regulatory compliance
  • Abatement, demolition, and construction oversight
  • Interacting with regulators and contractors
  • Health and safety training development / delivery
  • Industrial hygiene and chemical exposure monitoring
  • Air monitoring
  • OSHA-required program development, such as emergency planning, lockout tagout, confined space, and respiratory protection

To succeed in this role, you will need:

  • 40 Hour HAZWOPER certification and requisite 8-hour updates  
  • 24-hour AHERA Inspector certification
  • Bachelor's or advanced degree in Occupational Safety and Health, environmental science, construction management, or related field
  • 10+ years of relevant experience in delivering health/safety/environmental services in consulting setting. 
  • Experience with asbestos sample collection and hazardous building material surveys
  • Ability to manage and help develop staff-level personnel
  • Ability to understand data, data integrity, scientific methods, the principles of industrial hygiene, and health and safety regulations
  • Driven to succeed
  • Excellent oral/written communication skills 
  • Exceptional attention to detail and ability to focus on checklists and data tables.
  • Experience developing and maintaining client relationships
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Proven interpersonal skills 
  • Sound technical capabilities and organizational and problem-solving skills 
  • Ability to perform physical duties including, but not limited to, lifting, use of respiratory equipment and other protective gear, and traversing rough terrain.
  • Willingness to work overtime and travel to remote field sites in Oregon, as necessary

Desired Other Skills and Experience:

  • CIH and/or CSP certification
  • Oregon or Washington Certified Asbestos Supervisor
